Blue Jays’ Anthony Bass slams United Airlines

Traveling by aeroplane is never simple, especially when you have young children. Anthony Bass of the Toronto Blue Jays, though, is causing a stir online after criticising flight attendants for allegedly “making” his wife clean up after their children on a plane.

On Sunday, Bass made the allegation that a United Airlines employee had his wife, Sydney Rae Bass, clean up their toddler’s mess while she was “on her hands and knees.”

“My 22-week pregnant wife was forced to get down on her hands and knees by the [United] flight attendant to clean up the popcorn mess left by my youngest daughter, who was travelling with us along with a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old. What are you talking about? “Tweeted him.

The tweet soon generated discussion online, with many arguing that Bass was wrong and that parents should be held accountable for tidying up their children’s messes in public areas.

Several others criticised Bass for his personal “entitlement,” saying that this situation “should’ve been a teaching moment” and that the children might have assisted with the cleanup themselves.

In later tweets, Bass added some extra background in reaction to the criticism he had received, noting that “United provided the popcorn, not my wife.”

He was joined by others who felt that the airline should be in charge of cleaning up the mess.

One commenter said, “If they’re going to serve popcorn on the plane, be ready for messes to clean up.”

Another person commented, “Some of the comments are just ludicrous. “Ever dropped popcorn on the ground while watching a movie? After you depart, do you clean things up or does the theatre staff?”

On Monday morning, Bass sent out one farewell tweet in which he expressed his gratitude to his supporters.
