Disney+ Reveals About Upcoming Percy Jackson Shows

Disney+ Reveals About Upcoming Percy Jackson Shows: One of the most eagerly awaited Disney+ releases outside of the Star Wars and Marvel series is without a doubt Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Two critically panned movies were the last live-action versions of the young adult series that viewers worldwide saw. Disney is thankfully trying again to adapt the books.

In fact, a streaming series for the books is already in development for Disney+, with the first season focusing on The Lightning Thief.

Disney+ Reveals About Upcoming Percy Jackson Shows

“Disney’s Epic Entertainment Showcase: The Musical: The Extravaganza,” a new panel for the forthcoming D23 conference, has been announced by Disney. Raven-Symone and Lilly Singh will serve as the session’s hosts. Let’s see what Disney+ reveals about upcoming Percy Jackson shows.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians will receive its own focus during the panel in addition to the films being played, which also include Nation Treasure: Edge of History and The Muppets Mayhem.

The only other details regarding their appearance are that they will be joined by some unidentified special guests for presumably announcements regarding the demigod series, as well as the original author of the book series, Rick Riordan.

On Saturday, September 10, the complete Branded Television panel will follow Marvel Studios & Lucasfilm’s presentation and last for one hour and forty-five minutes, with Percy Jackson’s section probably being capped at ten minutes.

The most current image of the three major cast members together on the series’ set was shared on the Disney+ social media page. The post honoring Walker Scobell’s birthday was attached:

“It’s a very special day for a very special demigod. We’re celebrating Percy Jackson’s Birthday with a gift just for you… #PercyPreview… #PercyJackson and the Olympians is coming soon to #DisneyPlus.”

Actress Leah Sava Jeffries previously told MTV UK that she “liked filming” on the show and that “the cast is amazing:”

“It’s going great. I love filming on Percy Jackson! The cast is amazing, I love the locations that we’re filming at. I can’t wait for you guys to see it also.”

Author Rick Riordan responded to a Goodreads query on whether season one would solely focus on the first book by saying that “that’s the plan” and that he is “optimistic [they] will gain approval to do more:

“That’s the idea, yes. Of course, first we have to get approval to do future seasons. Right now, we are only green-lit for one season, but if you all watch and like it, I am optimistic we will get approval to do more.”

What about the Kane Chronicles, another book series by Riordan? The Red Pyramid script is “going through re-write[s],” according to the author, and the entire series is planned to be “feature films for Netflix:”

“Kane Chronicles will be feature films for Netflix. The Red Pyramid script is going through a re-write right now. Chance of crossover, I would say, is zero, since Disney owns Percy and Netflix owns Kane, and they are competitors, but who knows? I never thought Disney would end up buying Fox, and that worked out pretty well for me.”

What Will Percy Show at D23?

Even though the series won’t premiere until later this year or into 2024, Disney’s desire to market it is not entirely unexpected given the attention the series has received since it began production. What, though, might they contribute?

The primary trio has been cast, but there are a lot of additional well-known characters whose naming is eagerly anticipated by fans. Numerous them are actually deities themselves, such Poseidon, Athena, Hades, Ares, Zeus, etc. Perhaps some of those castings will be revealed.

They might even have some film to show off, but don’t hold your breath for anything spectacular. There won’t be a lot of finished content to display because they are still in the production phase. At the very least, I’m hoping they can provide some concept art for how Mount Olympus will seem in this new adaptation.

Disney+ is presently planning for Percy Jackson and the Olympians to premiere in 2023 or 2024.
