Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football 2019 : Review, and Details All Game

Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football 2019: Have you ever wanted a game to be good, but you realised that if you weren’t fully honest, you’d be doing an injustice to all your readers?

Football 2019 Review, and All Details

Probably not, but that’s where Doug Flutie Maximum Football 2019 finds me. Here’s what’s good, what’s terrible, and what the bottom line is.

The Positive

DFMF features a lot of customizability options. All players and teams can be renamed and edited. You can also play collegiate, pro, and Canadian rules.

Many of Madden’s disgruntled fans would no longer be so if the game offered this level of customisation.

The Negative

Even for a low-cost indie title, the visuals are poor.

I’m aware that this is an independent game created by a trio of guys, and I respect their efforts. I understand what it takes to make a game, and I also understand that this isn’t a AAA product. Despite all of those compromises, this is a difficult game to watch on a screen.

The player models are a bit distracting, which makes it difficult to ignore.

The animations are choppy and abrupt.

Herky-jerky tackling, running, and blocking. When I compare this to games like Casey Powell Lacrosse, which isn’t a AAA title, the two games are vastly different in this regard.

Running Routes Isn’t Always Accurate

The receivers never appear to run the route that is allocated to them when you call pass plays. There is a lot of looping and congestion in one part of the field.

It takes a lot of work to get to the point where you can be effective in the air.

The Ball’s Flight Doesn’t Match the Rest of the Action

When it comes to the ball’s flight, there is also a disconnect. Passes go so slowly through the air that the action comes to a halt.

It may appear that this allows defensive players to react and intercept passes, yet defenders consistently lose easy picks.

There isn’t much personality in the game.

When grading independent games, you should always score them on a different scale when it comes to presentation. However, DFMF is so lifeless that playing without sound has no actual consequences or loss of immersion.

Something in the form of auditory or visual flair has to compensate for the absence of humanity.

Loading Times are Long

The loading times are significantly longer than expected. This isn’t a significant issue because we’ve all dealt with it before, but when the payoff isn’t excellent, the unpleasant load times are amplified.

The Artificial Intelligence is Horrible.

The A.I. is perplexing, especially on defence.

Defensive linemen might have a quarterback dead to rights and stop short of sacking him or sprint past him. On intermediate passes, linebackers don’t react properly, and they don’t plug gaps or establish the edge.

It’s a hardship to play the game.

The U.I. is perplexing.

The UI is the sole flaw in the customising suite. The concept of navigating the screens is not simple. The L2/R2 or LT/RT buttons appear to be misplaced, and there are a few additional button mapping errors.

Nothing about this is enjoyable.

My wife was watching the game as I was playing, and she said to me, “It looks like the coding is off.” It was such a simple assessment, but it was so accurate. I simply did not enjoy any aspect of the game.

Final Thoughts

It’s nice to see a tiny group of players attempting to fill a large hole in the sports gaming realm, but the game must still be enjoyable to be deemed a success. I wish this game were better so that it could be a viable option for college football fans and those searching for a game that could eventually replace Madden.

Unfortunately, it isn’t yet good enough to inspire such confidence.
