The ‘Primal’ Ancient Legendary Items, AKA Power Creep Incarnate, are coming to ‘Diablo 3’
Primal ancient drop rate : Blizzard has released the patch notes for Diablo 3 version 2.5.0, and while they bring a few pleasant enhancements to the game, they also demonstrate how dry the well is becoming.
New tabs for materials have been added to free up stash space, as well as a quasi-buff to bounty payouts and a new “loadout” armoury system where players may save not only gear, but also skills, socketed gems, and even Kanai Cube powers to swap between builds quickly.
This is something that every game in this genre sorely needs, and although it’s great that it’s finally arrived in D3, it’s been years in the making.
Because the switching process has been so inconvenient to date, I’ve already levelled a full set of max level other characters as build alternates.
The addition of Primal Ancient Legendary weapons is the one feature in the patch that has a lot of people in the Diablo community rolling their eyes.
Currently, there is a mechanism in place that allows Legendary/set weapons/armor to drop with unique qualities and higher stats than “normal” goods.
Each of those things has had a chance to drop as a “Ancient” form for a time now, which has larger stat ranges in categories like Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Resist All, and so on.
Primal Ancient Legendary Weapons will now be even rarer, with a chance of dropping with even greater stats.
What makes this so bad? Isn’t it fun to have more powerful gear?
Both yes and no. The problem is that this introduces yet another ridiculous degree of RNG into the game in order to artificially lengthen playtime without providing anything new or valuable.
The concept of a “Ancient Ancient,” sometimes known as a “Primal Ancient,” exemplifies pure power creep.
Players are already dealing with multiple layers of RNG in order to obtain the items they desire.
On top of that, it has to drop for the proper slot, be the right type of item, roll with the best stats, and there’s a 10% possibility it’ll drop as Ancient.
Now, with a Primal Ancients drop rate of roughly 1% in testing, gamers will be even more insane as they try to get that extra +150 Strength or +30 Resist All.
This may not seem like a big thing, but it represents Blizzard throwing in the towel when it comes to Diablo 3 support in what appears to be its latter phases.
The Darkening of Tristam event was a letdown, and now the answer to “now what?” is to create yet another god tier of things that push power creep to new heights while making players feel like the builds they’ve honed so far are now rubbish.
The introduction of the Necromancer is the only thing in Diablo 3 that gets me thrilled these days, which is a shame because I love the game and it’s easily my most-played title in history, with over a thousand hours invested.
However, Primal Ancient Legendaries almost sounds like a joke, and the Necromancer can’t come soon enough.
