Lyft’s self-driving vehicle division has restarted testing on public roads in California, several months after pausing operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lyft’s Level 5 program said Tuesday some of its autonomous vehicles are back on the road in Palo Alto and at its closed test track. The company has not resumed a pilot program that provided rides to Lyft employees in Palo Alto.
The company said it is following CDC guidelines for personal protective equipment and surface cleaning. It has also enacted several additional safety steps to prevent the spread of COVID. Each autonomous test vehicle is equipped with partitions to separate the two safety operators inside, the company said. The operators must wear face shields and submit to temperature checks. They’re also paired together for two weeks at a time.
Lyft’s Level 5 program — a nod to the SAE automated driving level that means the vehicle handles all driving in all conditions — launched in July 2017 but didn’t starting testing on California’s public roads until November 2018. Lyft then ramped up the testing program and its fleet. By late 2019, Lyft was driving four times more autonomous miles per quarter than it was six months prior.
Lyft had 19 autonomous vehicles testing on public roads in California in 2019, according to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, the primary agency that regulates AVs in the state. Those 19 vehicles, which operated during the reporting period of December 2018 to November 2019, drove nearly 43,000 miles in autonomous mode, according to Lyft’s annual report released in February. While that’s a tiny figure when compared to other companies such as Argo AI, Cruise and Waymo, it does represent progress within the program.
Lyft has supplemented its on-road testing with simulation, a strategy that it relied on more heavily during COVID-related shutdowns. And it will likely continue to lean on simulation even as local governments lift restrictions and the economy reopens.
Simulation is a cost-effective way to create additional control, repeatability and safety, according to a blog post released Tuesday by Robert Morgan, director of engineering, and Sameer Qureshi, director of product management at Level 5. The pair said simulation has also allowed the Level 5 unit to test its work without vehicles, without employees leaving their desks and, for the last few months, without leaving their homes. Level 5 employs more than 400 people in London, Munich and the United States.
Using simulation in the development of autonomous vehicle technology is a well-established tool in the industry. Lyft’s approach to data — which it uses to improve its simulations — is what differentiates the company from competitors. Lyft is using data collected from drivers on its ride-hailing app to improve simulation tests as well as build 3D maps and understand human driving patterns.
The Level 5 program is taking data from select vehicles in Lyft’s Express Drive program, which provides rental cars and SUVs to drivers on its platform as an alternative to options like long-term leasing.

The June 30 episode is unlike any episode of America’s Got Talent. There’s no audience due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Heidi Klum is still out sick, so Eric Stonestreet is sticking around. The first act to hit the stage is Cheer Athletics, a competitive cheer group from Texas. They blow the judges away with their amazing stunts and tumbling skills.
At one point, Sofia Vergara’s jaw drops. Howie Mandel calls the group “terrific” and notes how cheerleading is so much more dangerous than the sports the cheerleaders are cheering for. Simon Cowell believes that the AGT audience is going to love this act.

The next act is a young piano player named Jacob Velazquez. He performs a beautiful original song on the piano, and then transitions into playing the drums to Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries.” Simon loves Jacob’s “amazing aura” and thinks he’s going to inspire a lot of people. He admits this is “one of his favorite auditions of the season.” Howie calls him a prodigy!
Michael Yo is probably someone you’ve seen before interviewing the biggest celebrities. He was an entertainment news correspondent, but now he’s pursuing his ultimate dream: stand-up comedy. His act has Howie and Eric clapping before he’s even finished. When Michael’s audition is over, he bursts into tears. Simon calls the audition “fantastic,” and Eric says that Michael “nailed it.”
Brothers Gage follows Michael with their harmonica-playing act. The performance is unlike anything we’ve ever heard before. Sofia admits that she was dreading the performance at first, but the brothers made it “exciting.” Simon tells the brothers that he loved their original song and their “likability factor is ginormous.”
Shevon Nieto is a two-time Olympic runner. She’s now retired and ready to show her voice to the world. In 2015, her husband, Jamie, was coaching Olympic hopefuls when his foot slipped on one of his jumps. Jamie was left paralyzed. They had been dating for 3 years at the time, and Shevon was getting ready for her third Olympic Games. She comes to AGT with an original song she wrote for Jamie called “Through The Good & The Bad.” The performance is absolutely stunning.

Howie calls the audition “beautiful.” Sofia says that Shevon has a “wonderful” voice. Simon tells Shevon that her audition was in a “different class.” Jamie is so happy for Shevon. Backstage after the audition, Shevon reveals that she’s pregnant!
A young cello player named Elijah shows off his talent to the judges with his spin on Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings.” While Simon didn’t like the backing track, he knows that Elijah has “great potential.” Kenadi Dodds takes the stage with just her guitar. She’s just 15 years old. Her family members have an eye disease where you lose your vision until you are fully blind. Kenadi is the only one in her family who doesn’t have the disease. Her 9-year-old sister wanted to see her perform on the biggest stage before she loses her vision for good. She sings an original song called “One Way Ticket To Tennesse.” Simon loves her authenticity and the fact that she knows she wants to go into country music.
Comedian Crystal Powell brings the laughs with her electric comedy routine. The judges love her. Eric admires the physicality she brings to her set, and Simon calls her “naturally funny.” Wesley Williams is a one-wheeled wonder. He takes unicycling to a whole new level with his daring act. At one point, he’s riding a 20-foot high unicycle!
The final performance of the night comes from Brandon Leake. He’s the first spoken word act to perform on AGT. His audition poem is an ode to his sister, who died in 1997. His performance is nothing short of profound. Howie stands up immediately, followed by Simon. Sofia starts to cry and tells Brandon that her brother passed away the same year as his sister.
Simon calls the performance “extraordinary” and an “amazing tribute.” He doesn’t even want to judge Brandon. He just wants to compliment him. Howie is amazed at what he just witnessed. “You moved me to do this,” Howie says as he presses the Golden Buzzer, sending him straight to the live shows.

Boogaloo followers are fixated on firearms and preparing for another US civil war
Facebook says it has removed and banned hundreds of accounts connected to a “violent” and “anti-government” US movement.
It said the network was loosely linked to the broader far-right “Boogaloo” movement but was distinct because it actively sought to commit violence.
Armed Boogaloo members have been seen at recent US protests.
The move comes Facebook faces a boycott from advertisers over hate speech on the platform.
Major companies including Ford, Adidas, Coca-Cola and Starbucks have pulled advertising from Facebook, urged on by campaigners who say the social media firm doesn’t do enough to remove racist and other hateful content.
On Tuesday, Facebook said it was disrupting the “dangerous” group on its platform.
“It is actively promoting violence against civilians, law enforcement and government officials and institutions,” a statement said. “Members of this network seek to recruit others within the broader boogaloo movement, sharing the same content online and adopting the same offline appearance as others in the movement to do so.”
The Boogaloo movement shares followers with some neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups, as well as libertarians and anarchists.
Facebook removed 220 accounts on its namesake platform and another 95 accounts from Instagram, as well as 28 pages and 106 groups that “currently comprise the network”.
“We have also removed over 400 additional groups and over 100 other pages for violating our Dangerous Individuals and Organizations policy,” it said.
It added that the removal of the accounts was “the latest step in our commitment to ban people who proclaim a violent mission from using our platform”.
The social media site said it had been closely following the Boogaloo movement since 2019.
The movement, often referred to as the “Boogaloo Bois”, is loose and leaderless. Followers generally sign up to two fundamental beliefs: a desire for an armed overthrow of the government, and an unwavering commitment to gun ownership.
It began as a relatively small movement on the website 4chan but over years has grown considerably in size.
Last month, a US Air Force sergeant with links to the movement was charged with the murder of a federal security officer during a Black Lives Matter protest. He was also charged with the murder of another officer eight days later.
US Attorney General William Barr last week formed a Justice Department task force to counter violent anti-government extremists including the Boogaloo movement.

Facebook’s recently launched app, Hobbi, an experiment in short-form content creation around personal projects, hobbies, and other Pinterest-y content, is already shutting down. The app first arrived on iOS in February as one of now several launches from Facebook’s internal R&D group, the NPE Team.
Hobbi users have now been notified by way of push notification that the app is shutting down on July 10, 2020. The app allows users to export their data from its settings.
In the few months it’s been live on the U.S. App Store, Hobbi only gained 7,000 downloads, according to estimates from Sensor Tower. Apptopia also reported the app had under 10K downloads and saw minimal gains during May and June.
Though Hobbi clearly took cues from Pinterest, it was not designed to be a pinboard of inspirational ideas. Instead, Hobbi users would organize photos of their projects — like gardening, cooking, arts & crafts, décor, and more — in a visual diary of sorts. The goal was to photograph the project’s progress over time, adding text to describe the steps, as needed.
The end result would be a highlight reel of all those steps that could be published externally when the project was completed.
But Hobbi was a fairly bare bones app. There was nothing else to do but document your own projects. You couldn’t browse and watch projects other users had created, beyond a few samples, nor could you follow top users across the service. And even the tools for documentation were underdeveloped. Beyond a special “Notes” field for writing down a project’s steps, the app experience felt like a watered-down version of Stories.

Facebook wasn’t alone in pursuing the potential of short-form creative content. Google’s internal R&D group, Area 120, also published its own experiment in this area with the video app Tangi. And Pinterest was recently spotted testing a new version of Story Pins, that would allow users to showcase DIY and creative content in a similar way.
It’s not surprising to see Hobbi wind down so quickly, given its lack of traction. Facebook already said its NPE Team experiments would involve apps that changed very rapidly and would shut down if consumers didn’t find them useful.
In addition to Hobbi, the NPE Team has launched a number of apps since last summer, including meme creator Whale, conversational app Bump, music app Aux, couples app Tuned,Apple Watch app Kit, audio calling app CatchUp, collaborative music app Collab, live event companion Venue, and predictions app Forecast. Before Hobbi, the only one to have shut down was Bump. (Some are not live in the U.S., either.)
Of course, Facebook may not intend to use these experiments to create a set of entirely new social apps built from the ground-up. Instead, it’s likely looking to collect data about what features resonate with users and how different creation tools are used. This is data that can inform Facebook’s development of features for its main set of apps, like Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.
We’ve reached out to Facebook for comment but one had not been provided at the time of publication.
The launch of NASA’s next Mars rover has been pushed back yet again.
The car-size Perseverance rover, the centerpiece of NASA’s life-hunting Mars 2020 mission, will lift off no earlier than July 30, eight days later than the previous target date, agency officials announced today (June 30).
“A liquid oxygen sensor line presented off-nominal data during the wet dress rehearsal, and additional time is needed for the team to inspect and evaluate,” NASA officials wrote in an update today, explaining the cause of the delay.
The launch team conducted the wet dress rehearsal, a comprehensive countdown practice session with Mars 2020’s United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on June 22.
Mars 2020’s original launch window extended from July 17 to Aug. 11. The “no earlier than” date has been pushed back three times — first to July 20 because of a faulty crane, then to July 22 to resolve a potential contamination issue with ground support lines, and now to July 30.
But there’s a nugget of good news in the latest update as well: Mars 2020 has a bit more time to get off the ground than originally thought.
“Flight analysis teams have expanded the mission launch opportunities to August 15 and are examining if the launch period may be extended further into August,” NASA officials wrote today.
Mars missions have restricted launch windows because Earth and the Red Planet align properly for interplanetary travel just once every 26 months. If the $2.7 billion Mars 2020 can’t get off the ground this summer, the mission will have to be put into storage until autumn 2022. That fate befell the European-Russian ExoMars rover Rosalind Franklin, which encountered problems with its parachute system and other issues that could not be solved in time for a 2020 launch.

Whenever it launches during the coming window, Perseverance will land inside Mars’ Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The six-wheeled robot will hunt for signs of ancient life in the 28-mile-wide (45 kilometers) Jezero, which harbored a lake and river delta billions of years ago.
Perseverance will also collect and cache several dozen samples, which will be returned to Earth, perhaps as early as 2031, in a joint effort by NASA and the European Space Agency. The rover will also test out several new exploration technologies, including gear that generates oxygen from Mars’ thin, carbon dioxide-dominated atmosphere and a little helicopter named Ingenuity.

Phaedra Parks Breaks Silence On Returning To ‘RHOA’ 3 Years After Exit – Hollywood Life
Phaedra Parks answered the question on many Bravo fans’ minds: is she open to returning to ‘RHOA’?
It has been three years since Phaedra Parks‘ dramatic exit from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and she’s now ready to talk about the potential idea of coming back. Such a possibility may end in the talking stage, though, judging by her interview with That Grape Juice shared on June 30! Phaedra was asked if she’d be “open to returning” to the Bravo show, and she cryptically replied, “I’m actually working on finding love, not fighting with my love.”

This was a jab, of course, to RHOA and a reference to her new gig on Marriage Boot Camp: Hip-Hop Edition. Phaedra elaborated on what she meant in another interview, in addition to sounding more promising about a possible return to RHOA.
“Well you know what, keep hope alive,” Phaedra teased after being asked about a RHOA comeback in a video interview conducted by People. However, she added, “But, you know right now I’m trying to find love. I’m not trying to fight love…I’m in a different place right now which is why you should tune into Marriage Boot Camp so that you can see me finding love and being in love versus fighting.”
Fans can watch Phaedra find love once the new season of Marriage Boot Camp, which premieres on July 2 and will show Phaedra work out the issues of her long-distance relationship with actor and rapper Medina Islam. They have been dating since March of 2019 — so, long after Phaedra departed RHOA!

Russia’s Putin appeals to patriotism as key vote reaches climax

All week, millions of Russians have been voting to reform their constitution, many using polling stations set up on tree stumps, park benches and even car boots.
Giant prize draws have helped entice them to the ballot, with the chance of winning everything from shopping vouchers to a car or flat.
Opposition figures have dismissed the whole process as a farce, stretched over a week with no proper monitoring or independent scrutiny.
But for the Kremlin the amendments are vital. The vote will clear the way for Vladimir Putin to stay in power up to 2036, if he chooses.

Not that the president mentioned that in his address to the nation ahead of the final day of voting.
“We are voting for the country we want to live in… and which we want to hand down to our children,” Mr Putin declared, standing beneath a giant, ghostly new statue of a Soviet soldier, to underline the “patriotic” theme that runs through this process.

The biggest overhaul of the constitution since 1993, this vote is partly about setting down Vladimir Putin’s vision of Russia: spelling out the values and priorities he has established during two decades in the Kremlin.
“Putin can’t just say to himself, ‘I need to do everything possible to stay in power!’,” argues Tatiana Stanovaya, the head of R.Politik, a political think-tank.

Those “ideological” articles, alongside “social” ones like minimum wage guarantees, are the changes actively discussed on state TV and by celebrity endorsers.
By contrast, the amendments allowing Vladimir Putin to restart the clock on his presidency when his current term ends in 2024 – and so run for twice more for president – are barely mentioned.
They were left off the initial information on the vote altogether.
Russia’s new constitution
The amendments cover dozens of existing articles, and add several new ones. They fall broadly into three categories and many enshrine things in the constitution that are already federal law:
Banning any action aimed at the “expropriation” of Russian territory, or calls for that.
Protecting the “historical truth” of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and banning any “belittling” of the feats of those who fought.
Protection of the institution of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
Senior officials barred from holding foreign passports, residency or overseas bank accounts.
Refers to Russians’ faith in God, as handed down by their ancestors.
Pensions to be index-linked.
Minimum wage no less than subsistence minimum income.
Forming a “responsible attitude” to animals.

“I like the idea that marriage should only be between a man and a woman,” said Elena, selecting her top amendment.
In her thirties, she also had no problem with Vladimir Putin staying on as president. “He suits us for now,” she said.

In the town centre, beneath a tower block decorated with Russian flags, some younger voters were scornful of the vote.
“What’s the point? Putin will stay forever in any case,” one girl flung over her shoulder.
Maxim said he and “lots of friends” had voted against.
“We’ve had one president for 20 years, and Putin could do another 16 years? I think our country needs something new,” he said.

Russia’s most prominent opposition figure, Alexei Navalny, has published a stream of posts on social media mocking the makeshift nature of the vote and highlighting irregularities.
They include pressure on some to vote and other people discovering their ballot had already been cast for them.
Influential blogger Yury Dud described the vote as “shameful”, in an Instagram post liked by more than a million people. He quoted Vladimir Putin himself in 2008 insisting that it was “absolutely unacceptable” to remain in office for life.
But the blogger hadn’t decided whether to boycott or tick the “No” box.

In fact, this vote is not required by law: the reforms to the constitution were approved by Russia’s parliament back in March.

This was a jab, of course, to RHOA and a reference to her new gig on Marriage Boot Camp: Hip-Hop Edition. Phaedra elaborated on what she meant in another interview, in addition to sounding more promising about a possible return to RHOA.
“Well you know what, keep hope alive,” Phaedra teased after being asked about a RHOA comeback in a video interview conducted by People. However, she added, “But, you know right now I’m trying to find love. I’m not trying to fight love…I’m in a different place right now which is why you should tune into Marriage Boot Camp so that you can see me finding love and being in love versus fighting.”
Fans can watch Phaedra find love once the new season of Marriage Boot Camp, which premieres on July 2 and will show Phaedra work out the issues of her long-distance relationship with actor and rapper Medina Islam. They have been dating since March of 2019 — so, long after Phaedra departed RHOA!

It was a dangerous and untrue rumor that Kandi strongly denied and even brought her to tears during the reunion.
All week, millions of Russians have been voting to reform their constitution, many using polling stations set up on tree stumps, park benches and even car boots.
Giant prize draws have helped entice them to the ballot, with the chance of winning everything from shopping vouchers to a car or flat.
Opposition figures have dismissed the whole process as a farce, stretched over a week with no proper monitoring or independent scrutiny.
But for the Kremlin the amendments are vital. The vote will clear the way for Vladimir Putin to stay in power up to 2036, if he chooses.
Putin’s vision of Russia
Not that the president mentioned that in his address to the nation ahead of the final day of voting.
“We are voting for the country we want to live in… and which we want to hand down to our children,” Mr Putin declared, standing beneath a giant, ghostly new statue of a Soviet soldier, to underline the “patriotic” theme that runs through this process.

The biggest overhaul of the constitution since 1993, this vote is partly about setting down Vladimir Putin’s vision of Russia: spelling out the values and priorities he has established during two decades in the Kremlin.
“Putin can’t just say to himself, ‘I need to do everything possible to stay in power!’,” argues Tatiana Stanovaya, the head of R.Politik, a political think-tank.

What are Russians voting on?
The new constitution includes articles promoting a patriotic education, reiterating the ban on same-sex marriage and adding explicit mention of God – all in line with the increasing cultural conservatism of Vladimir Putin’s rule.

Those “ideological” articles, alongside “social” ones like minimum wage guarantees, are the changes actively discussed on state TV and by celebrity endorsers.
By contrast, the amendments allowing Vladimir Putin to restart the clock on his presidency when his current term ends in 2024 – and so run for twice more for president – are barely mentioned.
They were left off the initial information on the vote altogether.
Russia’s new constitution
The amendments cover dozens of existing articles, and add several new ones. They fall broadly into three categories and many enshrine things in the constitution that are already federal law:
Banning any action aimed at the “expropriation” of Russian territory, or calls for that.
Protecting the “historical truth” of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and banning any “belittling” of the feats of those who fought.
Protection of the institution of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
Senior officials barred from holding foreign passports, residency or overseas bank accounts.
Refers to Russians’ faith in God, as handed down by their ancestors.
Pensions to be index-linked.
Minimum wage no less than subsistence minimum income.
Forming a “responsible attitude” to animals.

A person can only hold the presidency for two terms (replacing “two consecutive terms”).

Kim’s deal with Coty comes five months after the company closed a deal with Kim’s sister Kylie Jenner, 22, for a 51% stake in her successful Kylie Cosmetics line. It earned her $600 million at the time, but Kim’s new deal now makes her the richest of the KarJenner family. Although a billionaire status originally went to Kylie by Forbes last year, the magazine retracted the title in May after they accused the makeup mogul of falsely inflating her wealth and lying about her makeup sales.
“Kylie’s business is significantly smaller, and less profitable, than the family has spent years leading the cosmetics industry and media outlets, including Forbes, to believe,” Forbes claimed in a report they released.

The “Watch Party” feature, which is included at no extra cost with a Prime membership, allows participants to watch video content together at the same time with the playback synchronized to the host’s account.
The host of the co-watching session will be able to start, stop and pause the Watch Party as needed throughout the session, and those changes will also be synced to all participants’ devices instantly.
Each session can also support up to 100 participants — as long as those participants also have a Prime membership (or a Prime Video subscription) and are are watching from within the U.S.
While the video is playing, users can socialize with other participants through a built-in chat feature that supports both text and built-in emojis.
At launch, Watch Party is offered via Prime Video on the desktop and is supported across thousands of titles in the Prime Video SVOD (subscription video on demand) catalog. This includes the third-party content that comes with Prime as well as Amazon Originals like “Fleabag,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “HANNA,” “Mindy Kaling’s Late Night,” “Donald Glover’s Guava Island,” “Troop Zero,” “The Big Sick,” “The Boys,” “Homecoming,” “My Spy” and others.
Titles available only for rent or purchase are not available within Watch Party at this time, Amazon says.
To get started with Watch Party, customers will click on the new Watch Party icon on the movie or show’s page on Prime Video desktop website. They’re then given a link they can share with friends and family however they want. Recipients who click the link will then join the session and be able to chat with others.
Amazon says the new feature was built as a native experience for Prime Video.
The company is the latest streaming service to roll out built-in support for co-viewing — something that’s become a popular activity during the coronavirus pandemic as people are spending more time at home.
While the U.S. was sheltering in place under coronavirus lockdowns, a browser extension called Netflix Party went viral. Soon, all the streamers wanted in on this action. HBO, for example, partnered with the browser extension maker Scener to offer a “virtual theater” experience for co-watching that supports up to 20 people.
Hulu more recently launched its own native Watch Party feature for its “No Ads” subscribers on Hulu.com. Media software maker Plexa also rolled out co-watching support around the same time.
Amazon, however, had already offered a way to co-watch some of its Prime Video titles before today. Its game-streaming site Twitch had introduced Watch Parties this spring across more than 70 Amazon Prime Video titles. The new native experience rolling out now offers a broader selection and has the potential to expand to more markets in the future.
If you don’t see Watch Party yet, you will have it soon, as the feature is just now beginning to roll out more broadly.
Amazon wouldn’t comment on its future plans for Watch Party. When asked about the roadmap ahead, the company would only say that it introduces features when they’re ready for customers.
MONDAY, June 29, 2020 (HealthDay News) — Working at home during a pandemic isn’t an option for about three-quarters of U.S. workers, putting them at increased risk of infection, a new study finds.
Those 108 million workers tend to be among the lowest paid and are more likely to face pandemic-related job disruptions, including layoffs, furloughs or reduced hours.
“This pandemic has really exacerbated existing vulnerabilities in American society,” said study author Marissa Baker. She’s an assistant professor of environmental and occupational health sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Stress, anxiety and other mental health problems that can be brought on by job disruptions could persist after the economy reopens and social activities resume, she said in a university news release.
The 25% of U.S. workers (35.6 million) who can do their jobs at home are typically in high-paid sectors such as finance, administration, engineering and technology, Baker noted.
As the economy reopens, she said, these workers will continue to be less vulnerable to COVID-19 exposure and pandemic-related job disruptions but more likely to be able to care for a child at home — further widening the disparity between the top quarter of U.S. workers and others.
“The most privileged workers will have a job that can be done at home, reducing their risk of exposure, and enabling them to continue to work even as office buildings were closed,” Baker said. “Unfortunately, only a quarter of the U.S. workforce falls into this category. The fact that these are some of the highest paid workers in the U.S. is no surprise.”
The study, based on an analysis of 2018 Bureau of Labor Statistics data, was published online June 18 in the American Journal of Public Health.

Paul Walker’s Daughter Meadow Hangs With Vin Diesel’s Kids In Sweet Selfie – Hollywood Life
Late actor Paul Walker’s daughter Meadow is proving that the ‘Fast and the Furious’ theme about ‘family’ holds true in real life. She’s still super close with Paul’s co-star Vin Diesel’s kids, and shared an adorable selfie with them.
Meadow Walker was barely a teen when she lost her beloved dad, actor Paul Walker, in a tragic car accident on Nov. 30, 2013. But she’s remained so close to his good pal and The Fast and the Furious co-star Vin Diesel, 52. Not only is he her godfather, Vin’s kids are like siblings to Meadow. The 21-year-old shared a selfie to her Instagram on June 29 with Vin’s daughters Similce, 12, and Pauline, 5, along with Vin’s son Vincent, 10. Pauline was named in honor of Meadow’s dad, as she was born in March 2015, 16 months after Paul’s tragic death at just 40-years-old.
Meadow looked radiant, with a big, closed-mouth smile that showed off the dimples in her cheeks. She could be seen dressed casually in a maroon hoodie sweatshirt that had the word “Boston” across the front in white lettering. Meadow’s newly dyed darker brunette locks were on display, as she pulled her long hair back and away from her face. Her hazel-blue eyes radiated happiness in the photo.

Meadow captioned the photo, “family, forever,” which would have made her dad so proud. “Family” is a running theme throughout the Fast and the Furious franchise, and especially between Vin’s Dominic Toretto and Paul’s Brian O’Conner characters. Ever since the first F&F movie in 2001, Vin and Paul were like brothers in real life. Vin even calls himself Meadow’s “Uncle.”
When Meadow turned 21 in Nov. 2019, Vin had the sweetest message for her. He shared an IG photo of her next to Pauline and wrote, “I could say that I am so proud of the person you are becoming…but the truth is I have always been proud of you. Happy Birthday Meadow! I know it’s your 21st and you wanted to go big in Japan, but the family has a cake waiting for you when you get home, so hurry. Love you kid. Uncle Vin.”
Meadow had just turned 15-years-old on Nov. 4, 2013 when she lost her dad three weeks later. He was hosting a fundraiser for his charity Reach Out Worldwide to aid victims of a hurricane in the Philippines at a high-performance vehicle shop in Santa Clarita, CA. He went for a ride with his close pal, former Pro-Am race driver Roger Rodas, with Roger behind the wheel of his 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. The vehicle crashed at a high rate of speed into a concrete post and two trees not far from the auto shop, killing both Paul and Roger. He was finishing filming Furious 7 at the time, which would be his last appearance in the franchise.
